Overlooked in the tsunami disaster news, Iraq continues to sink into political chaos at an accelerated pace. The insurgents are killing police at will and without any apparent fear of being caught. The main Sunni political party has now announced it is withdrawing from the January elections and it's becoming clear that these elections are going to put the Shiites, led by Grand Ayatollah Sistani, and his Iranian cousins, in an overwhwelmingly dominant political position to control the future...

Apparently, last night was quite a celebration here in Hongkers. Seems it mostly centred round Canton Road and there were a few fireworks from buildings in central. Here in darkest Kowloon we were regaled by carrols and a six piece brass band. We'd retired early (you don't need to know the reasons) and happily the they ceased before midnight.

Santa costumes now include green and a rather fetching deep blue but Santa often seems to be bereft of the requisite waist inches in these parts...

I watched Robin Cook on BBC hardtalk last night and it became crystal clear that, if Cook is reflecting even half of current british political attitudes, then most of Britain must think that Tony Blair has been had by George Bush & Company. The latest debacle is the Mid-East conference that Blair brain-childed for february, with no apparent help from his good buddy Dubya, and which Israel announced during Blair's visit with Sharon, that it would not attend.
